Magneto-Seebeck effect in bismuth

چکیده
Thermoelectricity was discovered almost two centuries ago in bismuth. The large and negative Seebeck coefficient of this semimetal remains flat between 300 K 100 K. This striking feature can be understood by considering the ratio electron hole mobilities evolution their equal densities with temperature. anisotropic magneto-Seebeck effect bismuth, on other hand, has not been up to present day. Here, we report a systematic study thermopower bismuth from room temperature down 20 upon application magnetic field 13.8 T binary-bisectrix plane. amplitude depends orientation anisotropy changes sign decreasing becomes non-monotonic at low temperatures. When is oriented along binary axis, same for positive fields. so-called Umkehr arises because high symmetry axes Fermi surface ellipsoids are neither parallel each nor lattice. complex accounted part ($T,B,\Theta$)-space model based semiclassical transport theory incorporating Landau quantization. employed energy dependence scattering time compatible electron-acoustic phonon scattering. We find that transverse Nernst response plays an important role setting longitudinal effect. Furthermore, quantization significantly affects thermoelectricity temperatures as 120

Microchip construction for Seebeck-effect measurements on bismuth nanowires
The characterization of thermoelectric properties of nanoscale materials is a current topic of intensive research. Especially bismuth nanowires are very attractive because of their extraordinary properties and possible applications in thermoelectric devices. For the calculation of the thermoelectric figure of merit z = α2σ/λ, the Seebeck coefficient α, the electrical conductivity σ and the ther...
متن کاملOn/off switching of bit readout in bias-enhanced tunnel magneto-Seebeck effect
Thermoelectric effects in magnetic tunnel junctions are promising to serve as the basis for logic devices or memories in a "green" information technology. However, up to now the readout contrast achieved with Seebeck effects was magnitudes smaller compared to the well-established tunnel magnetoresistance effect. Here, we resolve this problem by demonstrating that the tunnel magneto-Seebeck effe...
متن کاملTime-resolved measurement of the tunnel magneto-Seebeck effect in a single magnetic tunnel junction.
Recently, several groups have reported spin-dependent thermoelectric effects in magnetic tunnel junctions. In this paper, we present a setup for time-resolved measurements of thermovoltages and thermocurrents of a single micro- to nanometer-scaled tunnel junction. An electrically modulated diode laser is used to create a temperature gradient across the tunnel junction layer stack. This laser mo...
متن کاملAntiferromagnetic Spin Seebeck Effect.
We report on the observation of the spin Seebeck effect in antiferromagnetic MnF_{2}. A device scale on-chip heater is deposited on a bilayer of MnF_{2} (110) (30 nm)/Pt (4 nm) grown by molecular beam epitaxy on a MgF_{2} (110) substrate. Using Pt as a spin detector layer, it is possible to measure the thermally generated spin current from MnF_{2} through the inverse spin Hall effect. The low ...
